Recovery Centre for Addictions, Trauma & Families "A 'total life' approach to learning and helping" The following course will now be presented only once a year. (April 9 - 10 & April 16-17, 2010)
In response to a needs assessment of those desiring to help others through the recovery process I have been challenged to put together a new approach in equipping individuals to serve in this way. The course "From Addictions Isolation to Freedom: Helping Others Embrace a New World" has now been revamped and updated. A New Approach Many have said that while the technical and knowledge based learning received through workshops was important, their greatest need was for personal development and growth. They found that assisting people in recovery requires a healthy and growing Helper. They realized all the knowledge in the world would not make a difference unless they were able to provide in a healthy and helpful way. Therefore I have initiated an approach that addresses both needs by using a multifaceted format of teaching, mentoring, therapeutic coaching along with vicarious learning within the group. The 20 hour course entitled "From Addiction Isolation to Freedom" is presented in a smaller group setting of no more than 15 people. This format is meant to achieve the goal of receiving personal development and growth along with the knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective Helper/Counsellor. The goal of this format is to equip individuals to help others with the same help they have received. The most effective helper is a helper who has experienced grace and growth in a journey of recovery from their own brokenness!
